EASTERN ARKANSAS — County judges in several eastern Arkansas counties are reinstating burn bans as the state’s historic drought continues.

Craighead, Lawrence and Clay counties are among those that had lifted their burn bans but have since reinstated them.

Craighead County Judge Marvin Day reinstated that county’s burn ban Tuesday. Under the ban, all outdoor burning is prohibited until further notice.

The Arkansas Forestry Division said 52 counties are now under burn bans statewide. Those include Cross, Poinsett, St. Francis and Woodruff counties in eastern Arkansas.

All but six counties in the northwest corner of the state are under a high risk of wildfire danger, which is a Level 3 out of four on the scale.

The state Forestry Division said the risk levels are determined by fuel conditions, drought status, and long-term weather forecasts.
