WYNNE — The Wynne City Council will consider a motion tonight to property from First Financial Bank for the construction of pickleball courts.
Wynne Parks & Rec Director Zach Morris told aldermen in April that the bank’s board of directors had agreed to deed property to the city for the courts. Aldermen will consider purchasing the property, which is just west of the bank’s main branch on Merriman Avenue, for $10.
Morris said the city is working with Ecological Design Group to develop renderings for two to four pickleball courts in that space. He noted the game of pickleball is growing rapidly, and is a sport that can be played by all ages.
The city has applied for a Lowe’s Hometowns Grant and is also seeking public-private partnerships to complete the project.
An estimated cost and timeline for the project has not been determined.
The Wynne City Council will meet at 6 p.m. tonight at Wynne City Hall.
The Wynne School Board has called a special meeting for tonight for the purpose of a student disciplinary hearing and approval of school choice students. Any recommendations for employment and resignations will also be considered.
The Wynne School Board will meet at 6 p.m. tonight in the junior high school library.
