Wynne’s athletic awards program adapts format to celebrate student achievements

WYNNE — There have been some changes made in the format of Wynne’s athletic awards program.

The event is still scheduled for Tuesday night. However, there will be no meal served, and it will be an awards program only. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Wynne High School auditorium on the temporary campus.

Several awards will be presented, and each coach will hand out individual awards for their sports.

Wynne High School athletic director Bryan Mattox noted the event is invite-only.

“We’ll recognize three and four-year lettermen in all varsity sports. Anyone that was All-Conference. Anyone that was named All-State. Anyone that qualified for the Triple-A All-Star Game,” Mattox said. “There are some community awards that we give out.”

Mattox said all senior athletes and their families will also receive an invite. He noted the event will celebrate the work the student-athletes have put in not just this year, but throughout their high school experience.

“There’s a lot to celebrate with our kids,” he said. “There’s classroom success, on-the-field success, but also just the adversity as a community that we’ve all overcome. The kids have been a big part of that. They continue to show up every day. They put the work in.

“Sometimes facilities while we were going through that tornado were an issue, but they didn’t make excuses. They didn’t complain,” Mattox added. “They continued to show up and do the work. I think the success we’ve had in our sports this year has shown that. I thank, obviously, our kids and their parents for raising the types of kids that they have. It says a lot about this community.”
