Wynne Water Utilities is nearing the finish line on several major projects. Wynne Water Utilities General Manager Blake Marotti said the temporary lagoon system, which will be used while the wastewater treatment plant is rebuilt, is about a week and a half away from being complete. Marotti said one more electrical component is required to have the system fully operational.
The basins at the wastewater treatment plant have also been cleaned out except for one. Marotti said contractors should have that finished by the end of this week. No structural deficiencies were found in the basins following the March 31 tornado. Fencing is done at the site, which is now secure.
Marotti updated members of the Wynne Water Utilities board last night on the rebuilding process.
The new business office on Falls Boulevard is also nearing completion.
Marotti said it should be move-in ready by the end of November. An open house would be held before move-in.
Board members also discussed the recent $4.3 million loan approved by the state’s Natural Resources Commission. Marotti said the loan is not forgivable as once thought, but a 20-year loan at 0% interest.
Marotti said that if they were to accept that money, the state would require a rate study. He added that increasing rates was something the utility “cannot do.”
