WYNNE — Two of the three projects that are part of the rebuild of the Wynne wastewater treatment plant are now complete.

Blake Marotti, Wynne Water Utilities general manager, said closeout documents have been submitted for Package A and Package B, which are the administration building and the maintenance building at the site. The old wastewater treatment plant was destroyed by a tornado on March 31, 2023.

Marotti said all of the block structures for Package C, which is the wastewater treatment plant building itself, are also nearing completion, with the roof being poured on at least one of those buildings.

The rebuild is about 60 percent complete. It is expected to be finished by May 2027.

Marotti said crews have also been able to do some piping that is part of the expansion of the plant thanks to the dry conditions.

Marotti said he is also hopeful that funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will begin coming in soon. The utility is expected to receive about 75 percent of the cost of the rebuild back from FEMA. However, the project has not received any FEMA funding to this point.

Marotti said the project is in the final steps before FEMA awards the funding, which is expected to come as soon as Friday. The money would flow from FEMA to the state, which would be responsible for getting the funding to the utility.
