WYNNE — The Wynne Tree Board will host two events this week in celebration of Arbor Day, the annual observance that encourages individuals and groups to plant trees.
The local Arbor Day celebration will be held at 9 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) at Malone Street Park. As part of those festivities, there will also be a “Free Tree Friday” giveaway from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Friday at the Wynne Fire Station, 1111 N. Falls Blvd.
The city’s urban forest sustained significant losses in last March’s tornado. Residents are encouraged to help restore the local tree canopy by visiting the Arkansas ReLeaf Tree Giveaway and selecting one potted tree and up to five bare-root seedling trees per person while supplies last.
Species will vary based on availability but will include some mix of bald-cypress, Shumard oak, cherrybark oak, red mulberry, river birch, and/or sycamore.
“Free Tree Fridays” are sponsored by the Urban & Community Forestry Program of the Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Forestry Division with seedlings donated by the Arkansas Urban Forestry Council.
