Wynne School Board votes to increase school resource officer presence

The Wynne School Board has approved adding a third school resource officer or SRO for the 2023-2024 school year. Members approved the SRO contract with the Wynne Police Department last night. Brittney Eskridge, a co-officer of the year and the current K-9 officer, will be joining DeAndra Warren and Michael Hinton.

In other news, the board agreed to stay with DCMC for services and to the fees for Nabholz as part of the high school campus rebuild; voted to stay with the Arkansas School Boards Association for property and vehicle insurance; and discussed air conditioning for the fieldhouse locker rooms.

Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Moore gave the board several district updates including the transition to the temporary high school campus. Dr. Moore also talked about the work at Yellowjacket Stadium and the arena, as well as repairs to the primary and intermediate schools.

The board approved a change in duties for Lesia Hicks from ALE director to the director of the New Tech Academy. Dr. Moore said Hicks’ former position would be phased out. The resignation of Kim Thomas as the virtual facilitator at the high school was also accepted.

The next school board meeting is Aug. 21.
