WYNNE — The Wynne Police Department is reminding the public of the tip411 app to provide tips anonymously and confidentially to the department.
Wynne Police Capt. Daniel Getchell said the department first began using the app nearly three years ago, but residents may have forgotten that option is available.
“We want to have that tool utilized,” Capt. Getchell said. “That’s a very easy way to submit a tip if you don’t think it’s worthy of calling the police or you don’t feel comfortable leaving your name and information. We may send you a message back through the app requesting some more information about your tip. If you feel comfortable giving your name by all means do so so we can get in touch with you a little easier.”
Capt. Getchell said the department has received tips through the app ranging from speeding complaints to more serious crimes.
However, Capt. Getchell said tip411 is not a replacement for 911.
“It’s not a replacement for 911 and will never be a replacement for 911. I want to reiterate that as strongly as possible it will never replace 911. If you are having an emergency, call 911,” he said. “If you need to talk to an officer or if you think that your complaint or your need can be met by speaking to an officer, you can dial the non-emergency line to the Wynne Police Department. We’re open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 870-238-8718 or you can call the sheriff’s office at 870-238-5700. Leave your name and number and an officer will get back to you as soon as they can.
“Those are all options,” Capt. Getchell added. “This app is just another tool.”
The tip411 app can be downloaded through Google Play or the Apple app store by searching for “WynneTip.”
