WYNNE — Wynne city officials met yesterday with members of the American Legion to discuss the potential of reviving the American Legion in Wynne.

Wynne Mayor Jennifer Hobbs met yesterday with both state and national leadership from the American Legion, including incoming National Commander Jay Bowen, National Executive Committee member Michael Westergren, Arkansas Department Commander Antoine “Tony” Gordon, Northeast Area Vice Commander Dustin Rowland, and Searcy Post Commander John Mercer.

American Legion Post 66 operated in Wynne for several years but is now inactive due to low membership and an aging membership base. Active posts in the area include Newport, Trumann and West Memphis.

The city asks anyone who is interested in reviving the American Legion post locally to contact Meredith McKnight at mmcknight@cityofwynne.gov or call 870-208-1118.
