After creating maps for Trick or Treat and Christmas lights, an EAST student at Wynne Junior High School has turned her focus towards tornado recovery.
Kaylee Stapler previously used ArcGIS software to create maps showing homes that were distributing candy or decorated for the holidays.
She is now working on a map that tells the story of the March 31, 2023, tornado, and the dramatic changes it made in the community.

Stapler was able to create and model the path the tornado took through the City of Wynne and added pins of places around town that received significant damage.
She is now working to add photos and video to each pin, showing the damage directly after the tornado and of the ongoing recovery.
Stapler said the map will show the progress the city is making, and to show that the school’s motto remains, “Jackets don’t just survive, they thrive.”
Wynne Junior High School EAST is a finalist for three awards at this year’s EAST Conference, which begins today in Hot Springs.
Reese Oguin is a finalist for the EAST Influencer Award. The team of Ansleigh Hobbs, Taylor Terry, Ryan Clegg, Reese Oguin, and Dan Atupan is a finalist in the print media competition for “EAST Magazine.” Baxley Vaught is also a finalist in the “Hello… My Name Is” interview competition.
