WYNNE — The City of Wynne recognized more than a dozen police officers and firefighters for their response to the shooting incident on April 13th, the night of Wynne’s prom.
One person was killed and at least nine others were injured, including two struck by cars fleeing the scene.
Wynne Mayor Jennifer Hobbs noted the recognition came during Public Service Recognition Week, celebrated the first week of May.
Those recognized included officers Cody Reed, Caije Hendrix, Douglas Hicks, Nicholas Owens, Brittney Eskridge, and Detective Jamie Williams, and firefighters Aaron Mears, James Greer, Justin Daniels, Steven Griffin, and Casey Carlson, Capt. William Howton and Capt. Logan Jarrett.
Police Chief Richard Dennis said officers Reed, Hendrix, and Hicks were the first to the scene and were alone for several minutes until more help arrived. Officers Owens and Eskridge were both off-duty but responded.
Fire Chief Kory Ward also thanked the officers for protecting the firefighters as they provided medical care. Chief Ward said the community should be proud of the police and fire departments they have.
Charged in the shooting were Carl Washington, Cameron Crawford, Tommie Frost, and Quaverious Milon. Their charges include first-degree murder, nine counts of first-degree battery, and nine counts of committing a violent crime. Milon also faces a charge of second-degree terroristic threatening. All four are set to appear in Cross County Circuit Court in two weeks.
