WYNNE — The Wynne Fire Department responded to two fires Wednesday as the burn ban continues in Cross County.

The first was around 12:45 p.m. off U.S. Highway 64 near Elevated Spirits. The other took place shortly after 3 p.m. near the intersection of H.F. Henson Drive and Cogbill Road.

The latter was initially dispatched as an out-of-control fire. However, Wynne firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control. The fire appeared to ignite while someone was doing demolition work in the area. Firefighters kept the debris pile saturated to prevent the fire from spreading.

All but nine of Arkansas’s 75 counties are currently under a burn ban. In northeast Arkansas, only St. Francis and Mississippi counties do not have a burn ban.

The entire state is at least at a moderate risk, or two out of four, of wildfire danger, with 62 counties at a high risk, or three out of four. Cross, Crittenden, Lee, St. Francis and Woodruff counties are all at a moderate risk.
