Wynne Economic Development is looking to revitalize its grant program that helps businesses make exterior improvements.
The program, formerly called Renew Wynne, offered grants of up to $2,500 for businesses to improve the facade of their building.
WEDC CEO Bevin Hunter talked with board members last night about bringing the program back, likely with a new name. She also recommended the grant amount not be capped, as long as the owner also invests in that project.
WEDC board chair Tyler Griffin said the grant would allow for many improvements, ranging from signage to the parking lot.
Hunter said the program would not only help individual businesses but also the appearance of the city as a whole. The program would offer a rolling grant cycle until all funds are spent. A committee would select the projects for funding.
In other news, Hunter provided updates on the agreement with Hicks Brothers Welding. Hicks Brothers received just under $112,000 from WEDC, and plans to hire nine people over the next three years. Hunter said she has received a request for assistance from Mueller, who needs to put sprinklers in its building. The CEO said the option on the certified site has been renewed for another three years. WEDC is also looking for other land to option.
The board also received a presentation from Loaded for Bear of Memphis regarding re-branding.
