Wynne Downtown Revitalization honors late Mary Anne Cruthirds, appoints new board member

Wynne Downtown Revitalization will recognize the contributions of the late Mary Anne Cruthirds at an upcoming event. Board members approved a memorial contribution in Cruthirds’ memory to First United Methodist Church yesterday. The board will also recognize Cruthirds at an upcoming event. Cruthirds, who died Sept. 21, spearheaded the annual golf tournament, which had been the group’s largest fundraiser before COVID.

In other news, Wynne Downtown Revitalization is once again without a secretary after the resignation of Karla Davis. Davis was appointed to the position last month but had to resign due to family obligations. Bevin Hunter, CEO of Wynne Economic Development, was appointed to the downtown revitalization board yesterday.

Board chair Kim Mcguire also provided updates on the annual grant from the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program; the EAST at Wynne High School mural project; and a downtown Christmas. Plans have yet to be finalized for the Christmas event due to safety concerns with some downtown businesses damaged in the tornado.

McGuire and Hunter also talked about ideas they took from the recent Destination Downtown conference in Monroe, La.

Wynne Downtown Revitalization will next meet at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in the Bill Thomas Tech Center board room.
