Wynne Downtown Revitalization collaborates with Searcy artist for downtown mural series

WYNNE — Wynne Downtown Revitalization is working with Searcy native Jason White to create a series of downtown murals.

White, the owner of White’s Artworks, provided a rough sketch of the first mural to Wynne Downtown board members Thursday.

White said the first few designs are usually not the final product, but help provide a direction for the project.

Wynne Downtown Revitalization recently sought proposals for the installation of murals in the historic downtown area. The goal is to create a mural alley on Wilson Street. The first mural will be installed on the east wall of the old Graham Hardware building, or Steinberg grocery store.

White said the focus of the mural will be the outdoor aspects of Wynne and Cross County such as hunting, fishing, and other amenities provided at Village Creek State Park such as golfing and hiking.

White said he likes his murals to be both informational and interactive – informational in providing details of a community, and interactive allowing visitors to interact or take photos that are distributed on social media.

Members suggested adding a yellowjacket as well as a water tower with the hashtag “Wynne Strong” to the mural.

No timeline was given for the project.
