West Memphis approves resolution supporting nuclear energy for future development

WEST MEMPHIS β€” The City of West Memphis has approved a resolution that would allow for nuclear energy to help power future development.

West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon said the city has continued to see economic development growth. However, there is currently no way to provide power to all of the businesses looking to locate in West Memphis.

McClendon addressed the issue yesterday during a speech to the Memphis Rotary Club.

β€œIt would allow us to be able to power any industry or data center that wants to come here without the problems of the power issue that other data centers or industries may experience on the grid,” he said.

McClendon said the resolution would allow for small, clean nuclear power plants to be located on the sites where additional power is needed. The power plants would roughly be the size of an 18-wheeler trailer.
