CHERRY VALLEY — The Cross County School District is exploring the possibility of adding volleyball to its athletic program.
“This next school year, we’ve hired someone that is going to work in the fall, a couple days a week in the afternoons with sixth graders, seventh graders, and eighth graders that are interested in volleyball,” said Cross County Superintendent Dr. Nathan Morris. “Skills and drills and maybe by the end they’re playing some intersquad matches depending on our numbers. If our numbers are good this fall and warrants it, then the fall of 2027, those sixth, seventh and eighth graders that have been coming and practicing, we would then start a junior high volleyball team in the fall of 2027.”
Dr. Morris said the goal is to add a senior high program as well.
“Volleyball is one of the fastest growing sports for females in the United States. It certainly has been in the state of Arkansas,” he said. “Ten years ago, there weren’t a lot of 2A schools playing volleyball. Now, that has certainly grown and this would be another opportunity for our young ladies to have another option of extracurricular activities.”
