HARRISBURG, Ark. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service is projecting farm income will drop 2.6% in 2026 to $153.4 billion nationwide.

That represents a decline of $4.2 billion.

The report said input costs such as diesel, fertilizer and other expenses continue to rise, while commodity prices remain low.

The national average for a gallon of diesel is $5.36. In Arkansas, that figure is $4.96.

The USDA report was discussed during last Thursday’s second Rice and Soybean Field Day at the Northeast Arkansas Rice Research and Extension Center near Harrisburg.

New herbicide technology and the situation in Iran were among the major topics discussed in light of the USDA report.
