PARKIN — The Cross County Sheriff’s Office and the Arkansas State Police are continuing to patrol the highways in Parkin after the city was found to be operating an illegal speed trap.
As a result of the state investigation, the Parkin Police Department was barred from patrolling all highways within the city limits, including U.S. 64, 64B, State Highway 184, and State Highway 75.
“We’ve been over and worked traffic over there. There have been some tickets written over there by us and the state and we’ve answered calls over there,” said Cross County Sheriff David West. “I think 11 p.m. is as late as they work at night so we answer the calls during the night shift from 11 p.m. to 6:30 to 7 in the morning. It’s working well.”
As a result of the ruling, Parkin Mayor Carolyn Slaughter ordered that the Parkin Police Department operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Cross County Sheriff’s Office is handling the response at all other times.
