FORREST CITY, Ark. — The St. Francis County Quorum Court has passed a resolution to honor Jacob Marquis, who was killed in a hit-and-run accident in the Heth area last October.
During their regular monthly meeting last week, justices approved a resolution to place a sign on the I-40 overpass on Highway 149 to honor Marquis.
A Marked Tree native, Marquis was working as a roadside service technician for the TA Travel Center when he was struck and killed near mile marker 262, east of the Earle exit, in eastern St. Francis County. Marquis was 18 years old.
St. Francis County Judge Craig Jones talks about the decision to honor Marquis.
“We passed a resolution for a memorial for Jacob Marquis. Jacob Marquis he worked for TA over around Shell Lake and Blackfish,” Jones said. “They went through the state of Arkansas to get a sign put up on the overpass going over I-40 on Highway 149. There will be two signs on this overpass.
“Mr. Marquis, last year, worked for TA, was out changing a tire on I-40 and a truck hit him and it was a hit-and-run. They never have found anybody who did it. It killed him instantly,” Jones added. “His family was here and they asked the court to do the resolution so they could get this to the state. The state is going to more or less approve that this overpass can be named for him. The county’s going to put some signs out there for him. It’s a good thing. It was an emotional testimony by his mother who was here.”
