Senator calls for sale of Franklin County prison land

LITTLE ROCK — An Arkansas state senator is calling on the state to sell the land purchased in Franklin County that was to be used for a state prison.

Sen. Bryan King of Green Forest has submitted a letter to Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders calling for the state to sell the land that had been purchased for the prison, now that the new prison is not on the docket for the addition of beds by the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

The land was purchased in the Charleston area for about $2 million two years ago.

King is the senator who represents Franklin County. His letter states that the failure of the Sanders administration to secure funding for the project indicates that other options would be more viable for prison bed expansion.
