Record set for consecutive 100-degree days in September

WYNNE — A record has been set for consecutive 100-degree days in September.

Tuesday’s high temperature of 100 was the fifth day in a row that KWYN has recorded an actual high temperature of 100 degrees or higher in September.

That’s the first time that’s happened since KWYN became the official reporting station for the National Weather Service in September 1956.

The high temperature was 101 on both Friday and Saturday, 102 on Sunday and 101 on Labor Day Monday.

Sunday’s 102 was the third hottest day recorded in September since 1956.

Meanwhile, all of Arkansas — all 75 counties — are in drought conditions and all 75 are under burn bans.

Several county judges have declared their counties disaster areas because of the extreme dry conditions.

The U.S. Drought Monitor is listing Independence and Lawrence counties as suffering from a severe to extreme drought. Those counties — and Randolph County — have been declared disaster areas because of the drought conditions.

All 75 counties are also under a high risk for wildfire. All burning — unless approved by a county official — is banned in Arkansas.
