WYNNE — Some adjustments will be made for Wynne’s homecoming game tomorrow night, if rain forces them.
Wynne athletic director Bryant Mattox said the homecoming festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m.
“The homecoming court, obviously, goes out on the field. The ceremony is at 6:30 p.m. before the game,” Mattox said. “If it’s pouring down rain, they’ll move that to the arena. Then, they’ll livestream that in there. They’re just taking the participants and their family to the arena for that. But they’ll livestream it. It will show on the video board at the stadium and go on the broadcast, on Wynne High School Digital, the YouTube channel.
“We’re hoping not to have to do that,” he added. “The last we looked at the weather, knock on wood, hopefully, it’s out of there by game time and we don’t have to do that. But, at 6:30 p.m., the ceremony’s happening and hopefully it’s on the football field. If not, it will have to go inside.”
The homecoming court consists of senior maids Reece Autry, Carmyn Collins, Katie Cowan, Presley Devasier and Blair Huddleston, junior maids Aubrey Carter, Rose Jackson and Baxley Vaught, and sophomore maids Ansleigh Hobbs, Stella Holbrook and Saaniyah Tucker.
The queen will be announced during the homecoming festivities tomorrow.
Mattox said the wet weather could also affect tailgating.
“We’ve got 11 groups signed up and we always put them under the water tower on that grass field. You know they’ve got that new sod. If we get the rain they’re calling for, you get those grills and everything out there, those trailer grills and vehicles, it will tear up that sod. We’re looking at back-up options there.”
Mattox said the parking situation will remain basically the same for tomorrow’s homecoming game as it has been during any other home game.
“If you’ve been to any home games this year, it’s the same plan,” Mattox said. “You have the lot on Jackson. You’ll have some tailgaters in that. That will be a little bit less than normal. You have the parking in front of the arena. Then, of course, you’ve got the spot across the street from the video board. It’s for the football team. We’ve been putting band and cheer and ROTC as close to the admin building as possible to leave as much space in front of the arena for the public as possible.
“From the school’s end, we always tell people the overflow parking is over there at the intermediate and primary parking lot,” he added. “I know that’s a walk, but with the construction going on, it’s all we have. Obviously, people find places. Park along the street and all that. That’s not something we advertise for people to go do. We do recognize that parking has been brutal.”
Tomorrow’s game against Greene County Tech begins at 7 p.m. The KWYN AM 1400/FM 102.9/FM 106.9, EAB Media Group app broadcast begins at 5:30 p.m. The livestream will begin at 6:50 p.m. on the app and at 6:30 p.m. for the Wynne High School YouTube channel with the homecoming festivities.
