Pine Tree, Cross County cleanups coming up soon

EASTERN ARKANSAS — Two area cleanups are coming up, starting next weekend.

One is the annual cleanup day at the Pine Tree Research Station.

“For the past six years, we have been doing an annual cleanup. It’s what we call it. We encourage the community to come out,” said organizer Josh Flowers. “We drive around on side-by-sides. We pick up trash. We hang out and have a great time.

“A lot of us usually go around and pass out flyers and things of that nature to different businesses. Wynne’s been great. We’ve got a lot of stuff that’s been given to us for donations from our local community,” Flowers added. “People show up a lot of the times just for the door prizes and I understand that. We’re not mad about that at all. Last year, we gave away two guns and that’s an awesome thing. But, in my opinion, that brings people to the table. It gives them a little bit more encouragement to come out and help keep that place better for future generations.”

The Pine Tree cleanup will be held from 8 a.m. to noon next Saturday, Oct. 10. Lunch will be provided.

The Cross County fall cleanup will also begin that day. It will continue through Sunday, Oct. 17. Dumpsters will be placed at the Cross County Road Department, 1730 Highway 193 North.

The dumpsters will be available each day from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

No tires, batteries or chemical containers are allowed in the dumpsters.
