PARKIN — The city of Parkin is once again planning to bring a two-percent sales tax before voters.
The Cross County Board of Election Commissioners has called a meeting for 1 p.m. Tuesday to address a resolution passed by the Parkin City Council that would put the measure back on the ballot for the Nov. 3 general election.
This would be the third time the city has put a two-percent increase in its sales tax before voters. The first attempt was in May 2025. Current Parkin Mayor Carolyn Slaughter was also elected that night after then-mayor Diane Patterson lost a recall election. The sales tax failed by 12 votes. It was again defeated in March of this year, failing by just seven votes.
If approved, the sales tax would sunset after five years.
