Imogene Fowler Thomas departed this life at home on June 11 at the age of 89. She was born in Wynne, Arkansas, to Otis and Sarah Fowler.
Imogene married Gilbert Thomas, Jr. on May 10, 1954. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before his passing in 2016. After they married, they made their home at Fitzgerald Crossing, simply known to the family as The Crossing.
Since Imogene married into a farming family, she took her role as a farmer’s wife seriously. She stood by Gilbert, doing what was necessary to help him with a successful crop. She was known to prepare full country meals and take them to the fields for Gilbert and the workers. In recognition of their dedication and hard work, they were honored as the Cross County Farm Family of the year 1991.
As an exceptional gardener, Imogene’s deep love for plants led her to become a member of the Master Gardener program. She possessed a wealth of knowledge about various flowers and plants. She took immense pride tending to her flowers, transforming her yard into a beautiful showcase. She had a talent for the arts, especially ceramics and painting. Affectionately known as Hon to her family and other close friends, she cherished this name as a special term of endearment. Imogene was of the Methodist faith and a member of Cross Community Church.
Imogene’s surviving family includes her sons, Keith Thomas (Sandie) and Ken Thomas (Debbie); her grandchildren, Cliff Thomas (Jeana), Courtney Harris (Brandon), and Ross Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Gill Thomas (Colleen), Darla Thomas, Zac Thomas, Bailey Thomas, Lawson Thomas, and Samuel Harris. Also surviving are sisters, Rita Williams (Earl Dean) and Joyce Anderson (Danny); and her brother, Wayne Fowler (Linda)
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Bert Thomas; a sister, Mary Frances Henderson; and great-grandson, Kyle Harris.
The family would like to thank the faithful caregivers Carletta Jones, Tina Bell, Patricia Williams, Robin Williams, Gloria Walker, and Sandra Parsons, Legacy Hospice, Beth Gains, and the nurses who took wonderful care of Hon. May God bless you all.
Visitation will be held at Cogbill Cemetery, Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 4-4:30 p.m. Graveside services at Cogbill Cemetery will follow at 4:30 p. m. with Rev. Matt Carter officiating.
