Mr. Gwynne Alan Mahon, a resident of Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and entered his Heavenly home on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro at the age of 78. Known to family and friends simply as Alan, he was born in Hickory Ridge on Aug. 24, 1947, the son of Gwynne and Lottie Bell (Blaylock) Mahon.
Alan was a 1965 graduate of Hickory Ridge High School and proudly served his country in the Army National Guard. As a young man, he was a gifted athlete who excelled in baseball and continued playing basketball and softball well into adulthood. On Sept. 8, 1967, he married Libby Emerson, and together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage.
Alan devoted much of his life to farming and crop consulting. A faithful Christian, he was a dedicated member of the Hickory Ridge Church of Christ, where he was often the first smiling face to greet others as he held the door open each Sunday. He faithfully served his church by helping maintain the grounds and regularly serving communion.
An avid outdoorsman, Alan was an active member of the Womack-Wampler Hunting Club. He especially enjoyed duck and deer hunting, a pastime that created a special bond between him and his son-in-law, Brad. He also loved fishing with his grandchildren, who held a very special place in his heart.
Alan generously volunteered many hours at the Hickory Ridge Food Pantry and, in years past, enjoyed gathering with friends at the local coffee club. He also enjoyed spending time riding four-wheelers.
Above all, Alan was a devoted husband, father, and Papa. His daughters adored him and often said they could never find fault in him. He never missed a ballgame, school event, or activity involving his daughters or grandchildren, and he spent many years coaching his girls in softball and basketball. Alan’s family and friends will always cherish the affectionate nicknames he gave them, his love for the sweetest Southern tea, and, most of all, his kind and gentle heart.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jerry Mahon; and his sister, Mauvelene Imboden.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Libby Mahon of the home; two daughters, Ashley Mahon Arnold of Benton and Allison Mahon South and husband, Brad, of Wynne; his sister, Judy Willis of Colt; two grandchildren, Dawson Arnold and Weslyn South; three bonus grandchildren, Allie Trail and husband, Will, Morgan Hink and husband, Jake, and Ty South; four bonus great-grandchildren, Eli Trail, Miles Trail, Savvy Hink, and Layton Hink; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at the Hickory Ridge Church of Christ with Mr. Jody McFadden and Mr. Rodney Langley officiating. Interment will follow in Lewis Cemetery near Hickory Ridge.
Friends may visit at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.
