Obituary: Dovie L. Smith of Cherry Valley

Mrs. Dovie L. Smith, a resident of Cherry Valley, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro at the age of 88. She was born in Parkin, Arkansas, on May 4, 1938, the daughter of Griffin “Dock” and Delia (Scott) Hall.

Dovie attended school in Vanndale and married the love of her life, William T. Smith, on Nov. 12, 1954. Together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage before William’s passing in 2009.

Throughout her working years, Dovie was employed by Halstead Industries, Addison Shoe, and the Cross County School District cafeteria. She was a faithful member of Sharpe’s Chapel Church of God.

Dovie found great joy in the outdoors and took pride in keeping her yard beautifully mowed while tending her garden and flower beds. She especially loved preparing meals and hosting family gatherings. No one ever left Dovie’s table hungry, and those who knew her best will forever remember her famous homemade cinnamon rolls, a recipe that remains unmatched.

Dovie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William T. Smith; her parents; her brother, Joe Hall; her sister, Mary Sue Barnhart; her son-in-law, Harold Edwards; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, W.T. Smith and wife, Kathy, of Searcy; her daughter, Sue Edwards of Cherry Valley; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Williams and Joyce Mae Davis; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
