Obituary: Clifton Ira Homewood of Wynne

Clifton Ira Homewood, Sr., 79, a longtime resident of Wynne, formerly of Forrest City, departed this life, Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at the Crestpark Nursing Home in Wynne. He was born Dec. 7, 1946, in Forrest City, the son of Ruben and Virginia Jackson Homewood.

He was strong-willed, independent, and never one to be afraid to have an opinion. He had his own way of looking at the world and, if you knew him, you knew he wasn’t always the easiest person. But he was also a man who was loved by many, and there is no doubt that his presence left an impression on the people who knew him.

Clifton was a hard worker who spent his life wearing many different hats. Over the years, he worked in construction, drove trucks, and worked for the Forrest City Sanitation Department. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he served as a bus shop mechanic supervisor for Forrest City Public Schools. He was a man who knew how to work with his hands, solve problems, and get the job done.

When he wasn’t working, Clifton enjoyed being outdoors. He loved to garden, hunt, and fish. He was the master of pranks and loved to play tricks on people and laugh at their expense!  He also had a musical side that many will remember. He loved playing his guitar and singing, but some of his favorite times were spent making music with his father, Ruben and his Uncle Cecil. Those moments of sitting together, playing music and sharing songs, were among the memories he treasured most.

Life became more difficult for Clifton in his later years as he faced numerous health issues. He spent the last two years of his life as a resident of Crestpark Nursing Home.

Clifton’s story was not a perfect one—and neither was he. He was human, with strengths and flaws, strong opinions, and his own way of doing things. But perhaps that is part of what made him who he was. He lived his life in a way that was uniquely his, and he will be remembered not only for the difficult moments, but for the good ones, the laughter, the music, the stories, the hard work, and the memories that remain.

He was a father, grandfather, family member, friend, and a man who touched many lives along the way. Those who loved him will carry pieces of him with them—the lessons he taught, the stories they remember, the laughter he brought, the things he fixed, the songs he played, and the memories made along the way.

Clifton Ira Homewood Sr. will be missed, remembered, and loved in the hearts of those who knew him.

Clifton was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Virginia Homewood; wife, Martha Homewood; and one brother, Edward Homewood.

Survivors include two sons, Clifton Homewood, Jr. and his wife, Renée, of Forrest City and Tony Homewood and wife, Angela, of Wynne; a bonus son, Eugene Kemp and wife Stevie of Bald Knob; one daughter, Tammy Wizer and husband, Jason, of Wynne; one sister, Margaret Threat of Forrest City; seven grandchildren, Kallie, Kyle, Kayla, Clayton, Andy, Nathan and McKenzie; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Private services will be held at a later date.
