WYNNE — The Cross County portion of the Three County Fair will open this week with the Miss Cross County Fair Pageant.
“We have our pageant coming up on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 4 p.m. It’s going to be at Lynn’s Landing. Kim Murphy, she graciously donated her space for our girls to have a beautiful to compete at. Tomahawk Grill is going to be there, serving some fabulous food,” said Cathy Helton of the Three County Fair board. “Cara Imboden, she has worked so hard on this pageant. We are so excited to have partnered with her. She has this thing planned out to a T. She also added a Miss Inspire class to the competition, so we’re excited to see how that plays out.
“Every person from each county can come and compete at each location, except the Miss and Junior Miss for the pageant,” Helton added. “It’s because those two girls go on to represent us at the state fair, so our Three County Fair has three girls — a total of six — in each class that get to go represent out county fair.”
Helton said the Three County Fair is split this year with events scheduled in all three counties — Cross, Woodruff and Jackson.
“We’ve kind of played with ideas to get more community involvement, to have more ownership of each county. The pageant people (Arkansas Stare Fair Pageant) approached us wanting us to send a girl from each county,” Helton said. “With that on our plate, this is kind of a perfect opportunity to say we’re going to do a pageant in each county. Why not do a livestock show in each county? Why not do an exhibit in each county? Why not do something in each county that each county will get behind and support? So that’s kind of how it worked.”
More events are planned in Cross County, including a livestock show, rodeo queen class and the 4th annual speed show Saturday, Aug. 22, and a rodeo Monday, Aug. 31, and Tuesday, Sept. 1. There will also be exhibits and a school day. A golf tournament and cooking competitions are also being planned.
The Woodruff County events include exhibits, a livestock show and a pageant Saturday, Sept. 12, with a demolition derby also being planned. The Jackson County events have already been held.
