The Cross County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee has named Ty Mason, a freshman at Wynne High School, as the Wynne March Ag Student of the Month. Mason’s parents are Emily and Wesley Mason. Hillmon Davis, Wynne High School agricultural education/FFA teacher, nominated Mason for the award. He received a certificate, a T-shirt, and a cup for his award.
Mason, 15, holds the office of secretary in his first year in FFA. He will be running for office again next year. He was the top seller in this year’s FFA fundraiser selling country meats. The fundraiser allows FFA members to attend the state convention.
On occasion, Mason attends St. Peter’s Catholic Church with his grandfather, Kenneth Weindel, who sparked his interest in diesel mechanics and mechanics in general. Since shadowing his grandfather, he is considering becoming a diesel mechanic after graduating high school.
In his first semester as a 9th-grade student, Mason was active in ROTC. He will be competing in horse judging for the career development team. He also completed the OSHA 10 training class. Mason previously worked with Johnny Knight in construction. After last year’s tornado, he helped with clean-up by using a chainsaw to cut trees and limbs. A few of his hobbies include hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling.
