BATESVILLE, Mississippi — The Wynne Lady Jackets are traveling to Mississippi for spring break.
The Lady Jackets will compete in the “Battle of Batesville” in Batesville, Mississippi, on Friday and Saturday.
Wynne softball coach Ashley Busby said tournaments such as this one and this year’s rained-out Blazer Blast help the team get ready for the post-season.
“We schedule these tournaments to prepare us for post-season, our district tournament, our regional tournament, and ultimately our state tournament,” she said. “We want to see good competition. I think that’s what we’ll see there.”
Busby said she’s happy with where the Lady Jackets are at this point in the season.
“We’re still and will be constantly all season moving pieces around and trying to settle in and see what lineup makes us the most successful,” she said. “I’m proud of our girls. We’ve only lost one game so far this year. That was against Searcy, 3-2. We had opportunities to win it and just didn’t. I think with some more seasoning and experience under our belts that could go the other way for us.”
The Lady Jackets play Lake Cormorant (Miss.) at 4 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) followed by Center Hill (Olive Branch, Miss.) at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday, they will play Olive Branch at 11:30 a.m. followed by Oxford at 2:30 p.m.
Busby added the tournament will also better prepare the Lady Jackets for conference play.
“A lot of schools around here aren’t on spring break. We start conference the Monday of our second week of spring break,” she said. “This tournament on Friday and Saturday gets us back into game mode, getting us ready for post-season because we have a conference game against a very good Brookland team on Monday.”
