Jonesboro, Paragould to serve as Arkansas Capitals for a Day

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, Ark. — The cities of Jonesboro and Paragould have been selected as the 20th and 21st Arkansas Capitals for a Day.

Both cities will temporarily serve as the state capitol as Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and other senior state government officials visit Jonesboro Tuesday and Paragould Wednesday.

Jonesboro was established in 1859 and officially incorporated in 1883. It is named for state Sen. William Jones, who authored the legislation that created Craighead County. Paragould was also incorporated in 1883 and named for competing railroad men James Paramore and Jay Gould, whose tracks intersected in the Greene County seat.
