WYNNE — The third annual Jodi Lawson Memorial Scholarship fundraiser is set for Saturday, Sept. 26.
“We’re going to do it at the Bill Thomas Tech Center where EACC is. We’re going to serve catfish from 4:30 p.m. on,” said Joanne Lawson. “We’ve got a gospel singing group coming in at that time. They will be singing until 6 p.m. or 6:30 p.m., and then we’re going to have a live auction. We’re kind of excited about this.”
Plates are $15 each, with the proceeds benefiting those attending an Assemblies of God college or university.
“This is in honor of her daughter, the memory of her daughter. Her daughter was very involved in youth, very involved in the church and tragically lost her life at 17,” said Neda Hodges. “This scholarship, it’s in honor of her but it also continues the development of Christian leaders. One thing about the Assembly of God colleges that this is for, they do offer degrees in everything.
“You can absolutely get a theological degree and continue in ministry. But, ministry is not just speaking behind a pulpit,” she added. “Ministry is out in the public. Ministry is hands on. Ministry is in every way. So this is developing young people to go out into the world and become godly leaders.”
The fish fry will begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Bill Thomas Tech Center, with the live auction starting at 6:30 p.m.
