Jackets travel to Paragould looking to extend 5A East lead

WYNNE — The Wynne Yellowjackets stayed on top of the 5A East with a big 45-10 win over Batesville last week.

The Jackets will travel to Paragould tonight in what could be a trap game. While the Rams are winless in conference play, Wynne Yellowjackets coach Randy Coleman said Paragould is actually the highest scoring team in the conference.

“When you kind of pull back the curtain on them a little bit, they’re the highest-scoring offense in the conference,” Coleman said. “If you look at their scores, they’ve lost games like 40-36 to Batesville and 43-33 to Nettleton. It’s games like that, they’re dangerous.

“They’ve got a very talented quarterback in a young man named Zach Flowers. He’s rushed for over 1,000 yards already,” he added. “It’s one of those games where you can’t look at the record. You’ve got to look at the big picture of what they look like on film. I think our kids have done that. It’s on the road, so it’s going to be a game where we’re going to have to continue to get better and play a complete football game.”

After missing the playoffs one year ago, the Jackets are well-positioned to host a playoff game this season. Coleman said that would be big as the 5A East will be paired up with a challenging 5A Central in the postseason.

“We’ve put ourselves in a position to try to get that home playoff game. We’ve just got to continue to get better,” Coleman said. “We’re matched up with the 5A Central for the state playoffs and that’s Robinson, who’s arguably the No. 1 team in the state in all classifications, Parkview, Jacksonville, Mills and Greenbrier, all five of those schools not only in 5A but in every classification. It’s a tough draw in the playoffs but getting that No. 1 seed or No. 2 seed where you can get a home playoff game would be huge.”

Kickoff for the Wynne game at Paragould is set for 7 p.m. tonight. The broadcast will begin at 5:30 p.m. on KWYN AM 1400/FM 102.9/FM 106.9 and the EAB Media Group app. The livestream will start at 6:50 p.m. on the app and the Wynne High School Digital Cinema YouTube channel.
