HUGHES, Arkansas — The Hughes Police Department in St. Francis County has been shut down because the department was not in compliance with law enforcement training standards.
The Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training defines an inactive law enforcement agency as one that existed and operated under state law but has not operated within the last six months. It has been that long since the City of Hughes employed a police chief or any officers.
The city is being patrolled by the St. Francis County Sheriff’s Department.
