House passes year-round E-15 bill; Senate version gains momentum

WASHINGTON — The U.S. House of Representatives has passed year-round E-15 legislation, while the Senate version is gaining momentum.

U.S. Sen. John Boozman of Arkansas is a proponent of year-round E-15 legislation.

“Many of our committee members on both sides of the aisle support year-round E-15. I do, too,” said Boozman, chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. “We are working hard to get that done.”

Boozman said the goal is to lower gas prices and boost corn and ethanol demand before a farm bill is enacted.

“I support the proposal put forth by Sens. Fischer (Deb Fischer of Nebraska) and Capito (Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia) and hope the Senate moves quickly on that bill,” he said.

The Senate bill is a companion to the House Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act, which last month. It would permanently allow nationwide sales of E-15 gasoline, a blend of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline.
