WYNNE — Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders will take a “Capital for a Day” event to Wynne next week to commemorate the first anniversary of the Wynne tornado, which occurred on March 31 last year. The governor will be in Wynne next Thursday at a time and location to be announced.
According to a release, the “Capital for a Day” program allows Arkansas cities to bring senior state government officials to town to meet with local officials.
While in Wynne, the governor will discuss the $7 million for infrastructure recovery approved by the Legislative Council last week. The $7 million will be used to rebuild the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
The wastewater treatment plant, two churches, the high school, and the high school football field were all destroyed in the tornado, along with just over 160 houses and businesses either destroyed or severely damaged. Four people died and some 30 were injured.
The tornado hit at about 4:45 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023.
