WYNNE — Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders has issued a proclamation declaring Wynne as the state’s “Capital for a Day” on Thursday.
As previously reported, Governor Sanders plans to spend most of the day in Wynne. Her visit will commemorate the first anniversary of the Wynne tornado. While in Wynne, the governor will visit areas impacted by the tornado including the temporary high school and Wynne wastewater treatment plant.
The proclamation notes Wynne’s story of survival from its founding as a railroad town to the growth of agriculture, and finally from the tornado.
The proclamation reads in part, “Though Wynne High School was almost completely destroyed, a mural in the school remained standing that said, ‘Once a Jacket, Always a Jacket.’ Those words of resilience have carried the town and its community through the rebuilding process.”
The governor’s “Capital for a Day” program highlights great cities around Arkansas, bringing senior state government officials into town to meet with local counterparts.
Wynne will be the tenth such “Capital for a Day,” momentarily serving as Arkansas’ seat of government.
