WYNNE — The kickoff event for Wynne Yellowjackets football is tonight. It’s the Wynne Fumble Club’s third annual preseason banquet.
“When we started it three years ago, that’s kind of the way we planned it to be — try to do it before the scrimmage game so it gets them a little momentum started,” said Amanda Fuller of the Wynne Fumble Club.
The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Bill Thomas Tech Center. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m. Tickets are $30 each and can be picked up at Always Home Caregiving, 415 Highway 64, Wynne. The Fumble Club said less than 100 tickets remain for tonight.
Attendees are also encouraged to bring cash to participate in a silent auction.
Pete Moery, a member of the Wynne Fumble Club’s board of directors, previews tonight’s speaker.
“Look up Jason Curry and read about him. I think it’s worth coming just to hear a great speaker,” Moery said. “I was told he has an engagement every day in August talking to schools across the state, other business organizations. We had some other options that we were going to look into but he was who we wanted first. He’s got an athletic background, so his speech, from what I understand, is centered around athletics and being successful.”
Curry is a native of Little Rock and serves as a teaching pastor at Rock Creek in Little Rock. He also leads the church’s Men’s Ministry and provides leadership for its student and children’s ministries. Curry attended Mississippi College, where he played baseball and earned a degree in communications. During his college years, he served at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, and later served on church staffs in Jackson, Tennessee, and Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The Jackets will be involved in an Arkansas Activities Association-sponsored scrimmage at Osceola Tuesday before opening the season at home against Marion Friday, Aug. 28.
The Cross County Thunderbirds will host Blytheville in their scrimmage Tuesday before opening the season at home against Harrisburg Friday, Aug. 28.
