Evidence testing in West Memphis Three case nearing completion

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — Evidence testing in the West Memphis Three case could be completed by the end of next month, according to an attorney involved in the case.

Lonnie Soury, who represents one of the three men convicted in the case, said evidence at the Bode Technology DNA lab in Virginia has been undergoing testing and that officials are close to releasing results.

The evidence, which Soury identified as ligatures, hairs and other items, has been at the lab since last fall. It was ordered to be tested using more modern DNA technology following a lawsuit filed by Damien Echols, one of the men convicted in the 1993 killings of three 8-year-old boys in West Memphis.

Echols’ lawsuit contends that he, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley are innocent despite spending about 16 years in prison.
