WYNNE — The family of Etta Lee Fondren will host a baccalaureate service for the Wynne High School Class of 2024 on Saturday, May 18, at Union Valley Missionary Baptist Church.
Dr. Sandra Smith, assistant superintendent of the Wynne School District, said Etta Lee Fondren, her grandmother, played a big role in the church.
“She lived next to the church, Union Valley Missionary Baptist Church. My uncle wanted to do the ceremony there because that’s where she went to church,” Dr. Smith said. “At that church, she was an usher. She cleaned the church. She fed the pastor. … They often rang the church bell. She was just a big part of that.”
The service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Union Valley.
The guest speaker will be Earle Mayor Jaylen Smith. Inspirational music will be presented by the Combined Community Choir under the direction of Dewitt Fondren and Michael Small featuring special guest singer Keith Pringle.
In addition, the Etta Fondren Memorial Scholarship will be presented to a member of the Class of 2024.
Wynne’s graduation ceremony will be the next day – Sunday, May 19, at 5 p.m. at the First National Bank Arena on the Arkansas State University campus in Jonesboro.
