Electric vehicle registrations spike 42% in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — The number of electric vehicles registered in Arkansas spiked 42% in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025 amid rising gas prices.

Through the first half of this year, 13,272 fully electric vehicles were registered in Arkansas. That number was 9,345 during the same period last year.

In addition, Arkansas has 69,023 hybrid electric vehicles registered through the first six months of the year, compared to 51,000 during the same period last year.

Scott Hardin, director of communications for the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, said there’s no doubt that higher gasoline prices have sparked the increase in electric and hybrid vehicles in the state.

The latest numbers show that the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Arkansas is $3.13 per gallon. Nationally, it’s $4.06 per gallon.
