Early voting begins today for March 5 primary election

Early voting begins today and will run through Monday, March 4, for the March 5 primary election.

Early voting will be held at the Cross County Courthouse annex building. The hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, except for Monday, March 4, when early voting closes at 5 p.m. Early voting will also take place on Saturday, February 24, and Saturday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Matt Hodges, a member of the Cross County Election Commission, said voters will be asked to present a form of ID and in which primary they would like to vote. Hodges notes there are three different ballots available – a Republican, a Democratic, and a non-partisan.

“The non-partisan ballot only contains races not designed as Republican or Democratic candidates, races like judicial races, school board races,” Hodges tells KWYN. “We’re not asking you if you are a Republican or Democrat. We’re just asking you which ballot you would like to vote on.”

Friday, March 1, is the last day for voters to transfer their registration from other counties in the state. It is also the last day voters can request an absentee ballot and deliver the ballot in person. Hodges added ballots can always be mailed in.

Those who may have been displaced by the March 2023 tornado can contact the Cross County Clerk’s Office to have their address corrected to save some time when going to vote. For questions, call 870-238-5735.

To hear more from Hodges, listen to today’s newscast on KWYN AM 1400 / FM 102.9 / FM 106.9 or the EAB Media Group app at 10 a.m., noon, and 5 p.m.

The polling centers will open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, March 5.
