DRAA mulls community event to showcase Colt-based facility

COLT — The Delta Regional Airport Authority is considering a community event to bring more attention to the Colt-based facility.

DRAA Chairman Shannon Hobbs said the airport currently hosts the annual “Ride the Ridge” poker run for the St. Francis Area Developmental Center but could do more to serve its community.

“There’s an airport in the southern part of the state that’s offering an airport car show once a year,” Hobbs said. “That sparked some interest here in this area to maybe do a car show/airplane show. We thought that would be something unique so we’re going to get with some county officials on both sides and see if they want to work to put something together.”

Hobbs said the event would likely be held annually on a Saturday during the fall.

“Fly in, drive in, and have a car show. You walk around and see cool cars and you walk around and see cool airplanes,” he said. “That’s something that’s done around the country quite a bit, believe it or not. It would bring people into the area, and generate some fuel sales. But it would also generate motel sales and restaurant sales and just be a good community event for St. Francis and Cross County residents to enjoy on a Saturday afternoon.”
