WYNNE — Wynne officials have just about settled on a name for the new pickleball courts planned for the downtown area, between First Financial Bank and the Cross County Library. That is the former site of Maxine White’s Maxi-Mart store.
“We had a family that is making a donation of $200,000 over a three-year period. That is so that Stephen Meyer can be honored with that pickleball court. He loved Wynne and he loved downtown and I think that’s a great honor,” said Wynne Mayor Jennifer Hobbs. “First Financial Bank had donated that property and with the donation, they reserve the rights to name that park. Sean Williams and I have briefly discussed it and it’s probably going to be honor the First Financial Bank in honor of Stephen Meyer.”
Bids have been opened for the project but a contractor for the work has not yet been selected.
Mayor Hobbs said that the city has some follow-up questions for at least two of the contractors that bid on the project.
The Wynne City Council approved an ordinance for the project Tuesday night. That ordinance allows for the city to finance up to $550,000 for the project, for a period of five years.
