Delta Regional Airport Authority tackles insurance costs and aircraft liability issues

COLT — The Delta Regional Airport Authority discussed insurance matters, including potential damage to jets being housed at the facility, during their most recent meeting.

The chairman of the Delta Regional Airport Authority is Shannon Hobbs.

Hobbs said that the cost of insurance for the entity increased by about 48 percent, from $27,778 to $41,177.30 for the year. The board agreed to establish a deductible of $25,000 in order to reduce that premium.

Discussion then fell on the airport’s liability on damage caused to jets by anyone other than the facility manager when moving an aircraft. Hobbs noted that there is signage in place to help prevent that, as well as a camera system to identify anyone who is involved in such an incident.

The board agreed to look into adding two more cameras. Hobbs will be looking at that potential.

In other matters, the board agreed to charge four hours as a “callout fee” for anyone needing their plane to be removed from the hangar outside of regular business hours.

The facility is also looking at adding an ice machine in order for pilots to have cold drinks.
