WYNNE — As previously reported, the physical therapy department of St. Bernards CrossRidge Community Hospital will be moving to the old Hibbett Sports location at the Oakwood Shopping Center.
Robert Brawner, director of rehab services at CrossRidge, said the department simply needs more room.
“I think what I’m in currently right now, including offices, bathrooms, is like 1,800 square feet,” Brawner said. “Just my gym area at Hibbett is going to be around 1,900 square feet.”
Brawner said the physical therapy department at CrossRidge offers a number of services.
“We’re an outpatient clinic working mostly with orthopedics, musculoskeletal-type injuries,” he said. “We do what we call blood flow restriction. It’s kind of the new wave in rehab. We basically restrict the blood flow to an extremity so we can load it without putting it under a stress like making you get in a squat rack and squat 300 pounds.
“That’s our big thing that we’re using nowadays, but mostly outpatient orthopedic. We see some neuro. Lots of total joints, knee replacements, shoulder replacements, hip replacements. Low back injuries, those are big,” Brawner added. “We see a few strokes from time to time. But I would say a majority of what we see is just musculoskeletal-type injuries.”
Brawner talked about his staff at the physical therapy department.
“We have four therapists working full-time. Myself and Wayne Traylor are the PTs that are full-time and then I have Lindsey Green and Fallon Owens. Those are my full-time PTAs,” he said. “I have a part-time PTA, Katelynn Morgan works with us three days a week. I’ve got a great crew.”
Physical therapy is not the only department CrossRidge will be moving into the old Hibbett location. The health & wellness center, now located in the Wynne Apothecary building, will also be relocated there.
CrossRidge administrator Garrett Morgan said the goal is to move physical therapy by the end of the year, with health & wellness soon thereafter.
