CrossRidge Community Hospital prepares for sales tax vote

CrossRidge Community Hospital is gearing up for the March 5 vote on the sales tax benefiting the hospital.

The CrossRidge Community Hospital governing board met with representatives from the Communications Group of Little Rock yesterday to discuss the promotion of the election.

CrossRidge has worked with the Communications Group since the one-cent sales tax was initially passed in 2000. During the most recent election four years ago, more than 90% of Cross County residents voted to renew the tax for another four years.

Lisa Van Hook, executive vice president of the Communications Group, noted next year’s election will be different as it will take place during a primary election. While turnout during a primary election is generally lower, more voters are expected as 2024 is a presidential election year.

Early voting for the primary election begins on Monday, Feb. 19, leaving the hospital with not a lot of time to get the word out.

Van Hook stressed that the election is calling for a “renewal” of the same tax that has been on the books for more than 20 years. The board is expected to meet again in January to further discuss the election.

In other news, the board approved several appointments and received a brief update from administrator Gary Sparks.

Sparks reported that the Joint Commission’s visit last week went very well. The surveyors said there were no findings that would call for a “conditional” accreditation.
