WYNNE — The Cross County Special Workshop in Wynne is working toward opening an area for clients to design and create their own T-shirts for events and other activities.
“We’ve done some renovations. We’ve got some new awnings outside. If you look on the west end of the building where Treasure Chest used to be, we’re remodeling down there and actually adding a new door on that end,” said Joey Astin, executive director of the St. Francis Area Development Center. “Ms. Julie Brown runs that operation for us now. [One of the things] she’s wanting to do is start a T-shirt shop and put some of our people to work. We buy a lot of T-shirts during the year so it really makes perfect sense that we have a machine to produce our own.
“We’re putting in a ramp and a door and a window on that west end of the building. There’s a ramp there but it’s not handicap accessible. We wanted something handicap accessible for the entrance,” Astn added. “Hopefully by the fall, we’ll have a T-shirt shop up and running and that is run primarily by the people that we serve at the Cross County Workshop.”
Nabholz Construction began work on the space nearly one year ago with plans to eventually create the T-shirt design studio.
Astin said the goal is to complete the project in two to three months.
The Cross County Special Workshop has been under the umbrella of the St. Francis Area Development Center since 2020.
